We Can Get There From Here
But there is no “silver bullet,” and technology alone is not enough to reach ambitious goals. That’s why we advocate collaboration and partnerships in transportation matters.
Looking forward, the transportation sector must be firmly embedded in a comprehensive carbon-reduction effort that engages all sectors of the economy, from agriculture to utilities to households to transport. At the same time, within the transportation sector, we need to maximize CO2 reductions through an integrated approach linking technology, energy, government and consumers.
An integrated approach is critical for success. Automakers must continue producing advanced diesels, hybrids and vehicles powered by biofuels, electricity and hydrogen. Energy providers play a big role by providing lower-carbon fuels and energy infrastructure. Governments assist with consistent, long-term policies and investments in infrastructure. Consumers help by buying new types of technology and energy and by practicing EcoDriving.
