“The Federal Automated Vehicle Policy (FAVP) is a living document that we expect will be updated and revised as needed, which makes sense for a suite of technologies advancing so quickly. Moreover, the incoming Administration will likely have their own thoughts on how our country moves closer to self-driving vehicles. So NHTSA’s issuance of the FAVP has started what will become an ongoing discussion on how to make these vehicles a reality as quickly as possible, while still building strong consumer acceptance.
“NHTSA has requested automakers provide our initial perspectives, and we have raised questions and identified areas for definition in our comments. In coming months, automakers intend to continue the conversation with policymakers and regulators so that we can together create a process that is visionary yet efficient, speedy yet protective.”
