Environmental Policy Assistant 


The Alliance of Automobile Manufacturers (Alliance) is the leading advocacy group for the auto industry, representing 70% of all cars and light trucks sold in the US. The Alliance is seeking to fill a part-time position for an Environmental Policy Assistant in its Washington, DC Office. The Assistant will support the Director of Environmental Affairs in maintaining the Materials Management Workgroup’s core functionality and operations. The Assistant will aid the Director in developing, planning, and executing environmental policy advocacy strategies to promote and influence legislation, rules, regulations, and actions at both the state and federal level to further the automotive industry’s goals to provide cleaner, safer, and more energy-efficient transportation. As an Environmental Policy Assistant, you will aid the Director in:      

  • Anticipating and tracking relevant environmental policy issues
  • Analyzing complex emerging legislation and regulations        
  • Coordinating communications with Alliance member workgroups
  • Attending meetings, webinars, and conferences and providing written summaries
  • Developing materials for use in advocacy work; ensuring accuracy, consistency, and quality of materials       
  • Preparing timely written comments for submission to state and federal regulatory bodies       


The ideal candidate will possess the following:         

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Some professional experience in environmental policy advocacy, regulatory affairs, or government (coursework in a related area can substitute for professional experience)
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills; ability to multitask and meet tight deadlines
  • Capability to acquire and apply knowledge rapidly    
  • Excellent communications skills (both written and oral)
  • Strong interpersonal and collaborative skills
